Wearable Goodies

I always knew that my life was missing something, and after visiting Michael’s flickr: MossyOwls, that was confirmed. Not only is Michael a talented photographer and polymer clay artist, but the items she creates are good enough to eat. Just check out her items yourself: flickr or Etsy.

Polymer desserts
From ice cream sandwiches, to cupcakes, biscotti, to Pop-tarts, Michael has definitely got a handle on things. Every work of art she creates is hand crafted and made with care. The detail on these wearable goodies are astonishing; she’s got holes in the Pop-tarts, unevenly sprinkled sprinkles on cupcakes and cookies, perfectly dipped biscotti, and designs on the icing ribbons. Although every piece looks good enough to eat, I’d strongly advise against eating them, for they’re made of polymer clay – too bad for us.

Michael’s hobby has made it possible for us to wear our favourite treats wherever we go. From school to work, you’ll be the sweetest cool cat around.

Make sure to check out her two online shops: Mossy Owl’s Polymer Clay Jewelry, Beads & More and Mossy Owl’s Button Bakery.

Cupcake Maker Game

November 20, 2008

Flavored icing, sugar flowers, velvet ribbons, candies, gum drops, and more – the wonderful things involved in decorating a cupcake. I’ve only decorated a few cupcakes in my lifetime, but I know this list only appears to be small in print. Decorating involves buying the ingredients, combining them and fussing over colour, temperature, and it’s consistency. Yup, decorating baked goods is definitely a hassle, but now you don’t have to worry!

Blame Technology

Dress Up Who has created an online game called Cupcake Maker Game that allows you to decorate cupcakes to your hearts content. Did I mention this method was calorie free? That means you can decorate cupcakes forever without worrying about it going to your thighs.

Decisions, decisions…

Though the selections are limited, it amounts to many possibilities. One could make a chocolate cupcake with vanilla ribbons bordering the edges. Or perhaps a strawberry cupcake with pink ribbons and a chocolate flower crown. Limited selections, yes, but endless fun? Double, no triple, hell yeah!

Off to Candyland we go!…

October 23, 2008

Hello and welcome Vancouver, to your Weekly Dose of Sugar! How you happened upon this page, I do not know, but I’m glad you did, for you’re in for a sweet ride. Here on Weekly Dose of Sugar, you will read about my sugary, sweet adventures in Vancouver. Watch as I waste away my pay cheque to splurge on delicious delights and enter a state of diabetic coma. Join me as I journey through Candyland and Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory.

Once I have my website, Sugar Coated, up and running. Not only will it feature my blog, Weekly Dose of Sugar, but it’ll have many other neat features as well. Such features include: recipes, must visit locations in Vancouver, top 10: better than sex treats, Sweet Exchange, and weekly challenges.

Sweet Exchange is a penpal-like concept that I came up with. Instead of writing and sending letters to one another, you would instead send sweets such as chocolate or candy. The idea is to be able to try sweets from different parts of Canada or the world without having to leave your own home. Of course, the two people involved would have to come to terms on the value of the sweets before purchasing and mailing them. But aside from that, this is one sweet concept!

Every week I will be issuing out a challenge for my audience to take up. The idea behind this is to involve you, the readers, during my journey through Candyland. As challenges are completed, readers will be able to post comments or pictures of their successful, or not so successful, completion. Challenges may include trying out a new recipe, finding a new sweet location, or just creating something that tastes good.

Week by week, I hope not only to share my adventures, but I also hope to have your thoughts or recommendations. After all, one can’t start an adventure without a little help.

Vancouver, this is your ultimate guide to sweets.
